Tempered glass

Tempered glass has its resistance increased by the tempering process, in which it is heated to a critical temperature and cooled quickly.

Tempered glass has its mechanical resistance increased by tempering. This process consists of heating it to a critical temperature and cooling it quickly, producing a stress system in the material. This happens because glass has high compressive strength and little tensile strength.

PKO Vidros' tempered glass is obtained in horizontal furnaces, which, as they are more modern, do not leave tweezer marks and make it possible to produce large sheets and small thicknesses.

The company follows the ABNT NBR 14698 standard to produce tempered glass, which undergoes tests that guarantee its quality, in addition to having the Inmetro seal.

Benefits of Tempered Glass

  • Five times more resistant than common glass of the same thickness;
  • When it breaks at any point, the entire piece breaks into small fragments with minimal edges, providing greater safety for users;
  • As it is more resistant, it can be applied free-standing with a minimum of support profiles, in addition to being possible to be fixed using hardware;
  • High resistance to temperature variations.

Main Applications

  • Shelves;
  • Doors;
  • Windows;
  • Boxes;
  • SpiderGlass® System;
  • Balcony glazing.
